Criteria for Teaching Pool Groups

 

TADPOLES: Ability: Not able to swim front and back paddle without the use of buoyancy aids. Aim: To swim 3m front and back paddle without buoyancy aids.


MOORHENS: Ability: Able to swim 3m front and back paddle without buoyancy aids. Aim: To swim 5m front paddle (face down) and 5m back paddle.


CYGNETS: Ability: Able to swim 5m frontcrawl (face down) and 5m back. Aim: To swim 10m frontcrawl and 10m backcrawl.


PENGUINS: Ability: Able to swim 10m frontcrawl (breathing to the side with arms coming out of the water) and 10m back. Aim: Experience deep water, to swim 15m front and back crawl (main pool) and introduce breaststroke.

 

 

Criteria for Main Pool Groups

 

PLATYPUS: Ability: able to swim 15m 'proper' front and 15m back crawl and be confident in deep water. Aim: 33m front and 33m back crawl and some breaststroke.


GOLDFISH: Ability :33m front and 33m back crawl and some breaststroke. Aim: 50m front and back crawl and 33m breaststoke.


OTTERS: Ability: Able to swim 50m frontcrawl and 50m backcrawl with 33m breaststroke. Aim: To achieve 400m at least 100m each of frontcrawl, backcrawl and breaststroke.


DOLPHINS: Ability: Able to swim 400m, alternating frontcrawl, backcrawl and breaststroke. Aim: 1000m alternating frontcrawl, backcrawl and breaststoke.


BARRACUDAS
: Ability: Able to swim 1000m. Aim: This develops stamina and style in a "fun" and relaxed group.


ROOKIES: This group is for the older children who are competent swimmers to at least 400m. They learn the basic skills of life saving (wearing shorts & tee shirt over their costumes).
